At the beginning of Peters last letter in the Bible he opens with an astonishing statement.
“God’s divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through our knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence.”
The first thing Peter wants us to know in his final appeal to us is that you and I have all we need for godly living through what? Our knowledge of Him! Our knowledge? Yes! Our knowledge! Peter knows that God has given us the Scriptures as our supreme guide and rule for all of life, and he means for us to know that in those very Scriptures we truly do find all we need to live the godly lives we’re called to. Where else do you go when you have questions about life, meaning, direction, temptation, despair, joy, victory, or failure? Where else do you go when you feel your heart unamazed at the glory of God? Go to the Word of God! It is all we need for everything because though it does not directly address every little thing about your life, it gives us principles and guidelines and hope that do apply into every decision we could ever make. Our calling is one of glory and excellence Peter says, and our lives in this dark world will only be glorious or excellent if we seek to bring our lives under and be mastered by the Word of God.
