Christianity is a revealed faith.
All revelation we have from God is by God’s initiative.
General revelation does not come to us in verbal or written form, but in an inward sense of the divine and the wonder of all creation.
Special revelation does not come to us in a sense of the divine or wonder in creation, but in verbal and written form.
The Belgic Confession clarifies this well in article 2:
‘We know God by two means: first by the creation, preservation, and government of the universe, since that universe is before our eyes like an elegant book in which all creatures, great and small, are as letters to make us ponder the invisible things of God…all these things are enough to convict men and to leave them without excuse. Second, He makes Himself known to us more openly by His holy and divine Word, as much as we need in this life, for His glory and for the salvation of His own.’
Rejoice Christian, God has not left us in the dark, He has revealed Himself to us.
